Every day is Halloween in the eyes of PRPL. His new remix is on another level of paranormal and wildly addictive.
Salt Lake City‘s one-and-only electronic music retro-villain, PRPL (pronounced purple), has released an unofficial remix of the globally renowned hit from the famed artist deadmau5 titled “Ghosts ‘N’ Stuff,” which features the vocals of Pendulum and Knife Party’s very own, Rob Swire.
PRPL’s remix revamps the legendary track’s energy just in time for Halloween, pushing the haunting vibes with aggressive basslines and eerie atmospheres. Win, win, win!
While deadmau5‘s original track captures the essence of early EDM with a house-driven beat and catchy synth hooks, PRPL’s remix conjures a darker, more intense energy.
The opening retains the familiar riff, pulling listeners into the nostalgia of the original, but quickly shifts as deeper, rumbling basslines roll in. The track’s breakdown sections are packed with suspenseful pauses, allowing the eerie, supernatural undertones to breathe before diving back into an explosive drop.
PRPL carefully balances respect for the original’s melodies while layering in their unique, heavy style, providing a blend of complex sound design and punchy low-end frequencies that are a signature in modern dubstep.
The remix is filled with spine-tingling elements—distorted vocals, sharp percussive hits, and warped synths—that are perfect for Halloween-themed playlists.

Overall, PRPL’s remix of “Ghosts N Stuff” showcases how an iconic track can be reimagined with fresh creativity while staying true to its core, resonating with both fans of the original and modern dubstep enthusiasts looking for something darker and heavier.
PRPL has undeniably knocked this out of the park and into the purple-hued paranormal realms.
LET’S CHAT WITH PRPL | MONSOON SEASON
Q1: What led you to want to remix this iconic and legendary song from deadmau5 and Rob Swire?
PRPL: “So I’m such a horror movie buff and love the Halloween season that every year I make a Halloween theme remix as for it being deadmau5 I mean would want to remix such an iconic song.”
Q2: Can you break down the creative process and development behind the remix?
PRPL: “I usually start with the vocals and I’ll try working some new compositions around those, and I’ll try my best not to stray too far from the original while making it my own. I’m gonna be honest; I have an old version of Ableton, even though I got the somewhat latest version. I’m too lazy to change it. I usually start off using my piano to get the right notes and guitar sounds to get a good feel of what I want. I always gotta add some hardcore to my tracks, or it’s just not me. Usually, the idea stems from what if this sounds 80s metal meets horror movie to me.”
Q3: What’s next for PRPL?
PRPL: I’m gonna be remixing my own song and sending it to you guys, and I’m about to play a Halloween show on the 26th. I can’t wait to drop this new remix!

MORE ON THE ORIGINAL TRACK BY deadmau5 | ABOUT “GHOSTS N STUFF”
“Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff” by deadmau5, featuring British singer Rob Swire of Pendulum & Knife Party, is one of the iconic tracks that solidified deadmau5’s place in electronic music. Released in 2008 as part of his album For Lack of a Better Name, the song blends electro-house with an edgy, almost haunting vibe, pairing pounding beats with Swire’s vocal intensity. The result is a fusion of deadmau5’s progressive sounds with a touch of darkness, capturing a kind of ethereal party energy. The track’s history is interesting as well. Initially, deadmau5 had the instrumental finished around 2004, but it took a few years, some modifications, and the addition of Swire’s vocals to reach its final form. It quickly became a club hit and is still considered a staple in both deadmau5’s live sets and electronic music playlists. Its music video, which shows deadmau5 roaming around in a ghost costume, playfully captures the essence of nightlife and the surreal, dream-like vibe that the track embodies.
