Willdabeast + Cryptochronica serve up secrets in ‘Speak Easy’ via Grand Alliance Music [Monsoon Season Review]

Grand Alliance Music shows us their secret sonic hideout in ‘Speak Easy‘ – Willdabeast & Cryptochronica are behind the bar serving up brass and bass!

Pacific Northwest standouts Willdabeast and Cryptochronica have locked in one helluva instrumental collaborative effort in new ‘Speak Easy‘ that highlights the creative partnership that has organically developed in Grand Alliance Music‘s tight-knit artist network.

Willdabeast told us that ‘Speak Easy‘ is a by-product of countless nights of sending ideas back and forth, refining and reducing, drafting and dropping arrangements, and scrapping what was, and adding what will be – adding in “that process didn’t happen overnight.”

The track itself came together over time. Ideas moved back and forth without a fixed plan until a version landed that didn’t need much explanation. What remained was structure, groove, and tone.

As that series of processes unfolded, a legible lane emerged from the lackluster. What remained what remained were illustrious sounds centered around groove, melody and the sonic identity that is now ‘Speak Easy‘. What has come of that session is a song that is meant for big rig speaker systems and intimate club settings alike.

Portland, Oregon’s Chris Shimanoff, better known as Cryptochronica, comes to the function with a decade-plus of sound design experience in fusing off-kilter soundscapes like experimental/freeform bass music and other trippy/psychedelic textures into his wheelhouse of wonk and wubs.

Chris‘ upbringing in the Hawaiian reggae and dub scenes have helped carve his distinct sound from the coral-laden coasts of the islands and began formulating his foundation in and for the larger electronic dance music industry.

Given his decade-long run in music production, this has allowed him to make his iconic bodies of work like recent release ‘Flarewave’ with Athena, his 9-track album Intersect, his Deconstruct EP (2024), as well as take a role as an instructor via Ill GatesProducer Dojo.

His release catalog as Cryptochronica expands into label spaces like Grand Alliance Music, Aspire Higher, Producer Dojo, and placements in the Disney Star Wars franchise.

Frequent flyers of our storm system, Willdabeast, consisting of Will Glazier and Dan de Lisle, produces music that combines electronic composition with live instrumentation, incorporating brass and wind instruments.

You may recognize their works as of late on our platform with ‘Trash‘, ‘Neon Coast Exchange‘ with Goldish, and their wildly archaic and creative collab with Dysphemic in ‘Step Into The Club‘ – all of which are exemplary of their electronic motif.

Their sound spans experimental bass, downtempo funk, and psychedelic electronic styles, emphasizing diverse sampling techniques, live performance elements, and thoughtful production arrangements.

Now, these two styles have merged to the middle, morphing their memorable music into one monumental collab, and as much as we want to gate-keep the soundscapes on hand, this one is meant for the masses.

Be sure to keep a keen eye on these burgeoning bass music taste-makers as they shape the current industry landscape with each release under the Grand Alliance Music umbrella.
