Let’s chat with Hysteric about the EP to best understand the inspiration, processes, and development of all four tracks, and how Lost Art came to be.

Inspiration Elaboration: The Story Behind Lost Art

Hysteric: When I first began this project, I was in the process of making my second sample pack Solace Hysteria Vol. 2. During this time I had recently made a song called SHINING FINGER and it was heavily inspired by older and lesser-known anime as well as old vintage anime samples.
After completing the sample pack, The more I dove deeper into those samples, the more I became obsessed with collecting vintage samples and went as far as finding old scratch records on vinyl.
This EP was a passion project, as well as a huge milestone of reaching one thousand followers on SoundCloud (of which, I’m very close to completing). I am very excited to share this with you all and show what I’ve spent six months creating.

[-] Did any particular themes or genres influence Lost Art?

Hysteric: Older and newer anime such as Gurren Lagann, Bleach, 1000 Year Blood, and some Legacy samples from vinyl scratch records such as Scratch Masters Vol. 2.

[-] What emotions or atmosphere were you aiming to create with this song/EP?

Hysteric: I was trying to showcase a more rhythmic and bouncy flow while achieving complex patterns with many variations in the sound. I wanted to have cool textures that complement the intro elements with the drop.

[-] Were there any challenges you faced while producing this EP?

Hysteric: The biggest hurdle I crossed early on was running into CPU limits; a lot of this was around the time I started creating more complex sounds and making my own samples from scratch. After dealing with CPU limits so often, I started a different workflow structure that began to unlock new ways of creating cool variations while keeping the fundamental sound intact so I could focus more on arrangement.

[-] What do you hope listeners will take away from your music?

Hysteric: I want people to be blown away with how much I put into this, and feel the energy and time I spent on this EP. I love what I did here, and I am extremely proud of the final project.

[-] Are there any tracks or artists that helped inspire you?

Hysteric: We all have our fair share of inspirations, for me lately it’s been a bunch of Infekt, LoopaSketti, Hol!, Astaroth, X (the unknown alias), and many others.

[-] Can you discuss the correlation between Lost Art and the artwork from Voltron Cicada?

Hysteric: I wanted to go for a newer style I’ve seen Voltron Cicada making, but still doing some call-backs from the first stuff I had made, musically. The mountains were added in the background, and without Voltron Cicada knowing the importance the mountains hold to me. Up there, in the mountains is where I’ve found my peace before, and has become my pursuit of happiness.

[-] How important is storytelling in your music, particularly in an anime, supernatural, or horror context?

Hysteric: For me, it’s a call back to my internal struggles as who I am as a person. A lot of people don’t know this, but I do struggle with a mental health diagnosis. Sometimes, the best way to embody those fears and negative thoughts is by writing them down, for me this is the way I choose to write.

[+] Lastly, what’s next for you after this release? Are there any future projects or endeavors on the near horizon?

Hysteric: I do have some pending unreleased content, but the most I’m looking forward to is the collaborative projects that I have finished, as well as some potential collaborations in the future. Shout out to CYBERUS, KERU, STARCRASH, and BlasteX; we have some bangers in the works.
