Drop Unit sounds off with one helluva Hurtless Journey EP bearing 4 tracks, spanning a 14:06 runtime.
Consisting of four forward-thinking tracks, ‘Demon Onslaught’, ‘Eternal Gates’, ‘Hurtless Journey’, and ‘Bound To The Beat’ – Drop Unit levels the playing field with this new EP.
Pacific Northwest-based rising bass music producer Tobi Froelich or most recognizably known as Drop Unit is no stranger to developing next-level creations behind the DAW.
As the ‘soul’ proprietor of seemingly countless original singles, edits, bootlegs of viral hits, remixes (two contest wins – more on that later), and collaborative efforts, Drop Unit has made a name for themself with their crunchy basslines and powerful drops.
While we can get lost in their sound and list out each mind-melting production they has been behind, we will focus our time on the EP at hand, Hurtless Journey – their newest venture into the dark and bass-laden catacombs that the soundscapes have veered towards.
Drop Unit shares with us:
“With the records on Hurtless Journey I wanted to debut my craftsmanship as an artist, not just as a dubstep producer, but as someone who wants to fully indulge themselves into their artist imagination. I wanted to make sure the energy never stopped, the flow just kept building and complimenting each other in a way that created a sense of adventure. This EP, it’s a reminder that the journey cannot go without pain. Trust the process of creativity and allow yourself to really hone into your genius and give the world something nobody else has. I worked with a visual artist to create content for YouTube videos, worked with my mentor on the mix downs and masters. I probably wrote each song three to four times over. I wanted to make sure these truly defined where I am as a songwriter.”

Demon Onslaught
‘Demon Onslaught‘ kicks off the EP with its powerful intro and aggressive yet drawing energy, setting the tone for what’s to come. The intense intro coupled with the thunderous drum beats create a captivating atmosphere that grips the audience from the first note.
The intro truly magnetizes listeners to tuning in – waiting with bated breath for what is waiting for us on the other side of this EP. The relentless energy builds an unyielding anticipation, as if a storm is brewing, promising an electrifying journey through the music that follows.
Eternal Gates
‘Eternal Gates’ is a captivating musical journey that transcends traditional genre boundaries, seamlessly blending elements of atmospheric hip-hop with mesmerizing vocal bits and infectious synths. The addition of haunting instrumentals and wildly addictive basslines in this EP installation elevates the listening experience, creating introspective and thought-provoking soundscapes that draw in the audience with a magnetic allure. What an experience, at only the second track on the EP.
Hurtless Journey
‘Hurtless Journey‘, the title track of the EP, stands out as a vibrant and energetic piece that captivates listeners from the very beginning. The song’s infectious rhythm and well-crafted use of samples create an immersive experience that pulls listeners in.
As the track approaches the one-minute mark, anticipation builds, leading to the exhilarating drop accompanied by the catchy vocal exclamation, “Go DJ, Go DJ, Go, Go!”
This pivotal moment sets the tone for an upbeat and dynamic shift in the music, allowing Drop Unit to instill a surge of adrenaline and a pulsating rhythmic hysteria, adding a compelling dimension to the EP’s already powerful array of bass-driven tracks.
Bound To The Beat
Finally, ‘Bound To The Beat‘ closes the EP with an explosive fusion of dance and dubstep, leaving the audience scratching their heads, followed by pure anarchy and neck-breaking drops.
The electrifying energy of the track is palpable, as it takes the listener on a sonic journey through pulsating techno beats and intricate melodies, luring you away from what you may assume will happen.
As the song unfolds, we are convinced the subgenre has completely switched, but in textbook fashion – there is a spinback and we are reintroduced to Drop Unit‘s riveting ability to fuse sounds and completely shock, and send shivers down your spine.
The combination of unexpected twists, powerful rhythms, and seamless transitions showcases Drop Unit‘s prowess behind the DAW, cementing their reputation as an innovator of tomorrow in today’s electronic music scene.

Drop Unit: “This EP intertwines a compelling narrative of the listener’s unwavering conflict with their inner demons. It highlights the universal journey of confronting and ultimately overcoming these internal battles. As the storyline unfolds, audiences are exposed to a diverse array of soundscapes, each unveiling a new chapter in this captivating saga. In contrast to my other musical compositions, which exist as standalone episodes, this EP delivers a unified storytelling experience. The vocals in each track meticulously intertwine with the evolving narrative, fashioning a vivid and engrossing musical odyssey.
The purpose of the music is to encourage individuals to confront their fears and eliminate any self-doubt regarding their humanity.”

We ask Drop Unit what can fans and listeners expect from you in the near future?
Drop Unit: “I’m hoping to get some of my work on label’s and really start breaking into the industry’s top level. I want to play Lost Lands, Bass Canyon, Forbidden Kingdom, Red Rocks… the list goes on. I’m currently launching my artist crew Unholy Society in September so make sure to keep an eye out for that. I recently won the Scaffeta remix competition for “Zombie Crawl” so I’ll be playing in Buffalo, NY sometime this winter and that’s just insane to me. The farthest I would have traveled for a show is 13 hours. I never thought I’d be playing across the country. Also, something really cool….I’ll be direct support at Substation in Seattle for the Subfiltroniks tour. PLUS MORE MUSIC. I think that’s about all I got going on.”
