[ Pure Static: Interview ]

Q1: Welcome to our storm! For our readers and newly gained soon-to-be fans, who is Pure Static? Briefly walk us through your origin story and decision to choose your name!

A1: Thanks for the warm welcome! Pure Static is my new experimental bass/techno fusion project. I have actually been producing for about 6 years recreationally under my last project Ryno which was predominantly dubstep. After relocating to Austin, I decided to start a new passion project and take things a bit more seriously. The Pure Static project is moving in a more experimental bass (Wakaan style) with trap and techno undertones, and I am super happy about that.
As far as the origin of the name goes. I was really shooting for a techno/glitch aesthetic and was heavily influenced by deadmau5 and Liquid Stranger at the time. After brainstorming for a while, Pure Static just fit right.

Q2: Being a Texas resident must have bigger benefits in regard to music. What has been most advantageous to you in The Lone Star State?

A2: I think that the inter-connectivity of the Texas scene is amazing. I can travel to just about any major city in Texas and have connections for shows, collaborations, etc. It really is a big family here.

Q3: Walk us through your four-track Incoming Transition EP. What would you like to speak on that in means of mental and physical demand, creative process, or even inspiration behind the extended play?

A3: Incoming Transmission was the debut EP off of the project and was an experimental techno EP with one track that I would consider bass. This EP was designed to take listeners on a journey and explore how techno and bass can be blended together and taken in new directions. As previously mentioned, a lot of the inspiration came from some of my favorite techno, trance, DnB, and bass artists like deadmau5, Noisia, and Liquid Stranger.

Q4: What can your fans expect for the rest of 2020? What about anticipate for 2021?

A4: I am really excited about the rest of 2020 and 2021. We have 5 Singles scheduled for release including a couple of collaborations with some amazing Texas producers, as well as a new EP and a couple of holiday mixes. I will also be picking up the pace with live shows as well. Transitioning to something of a resident DJ at Vulcan Gas Company in Austin, I will be opening for SubDocta later this month and a few unannounced shows that I am really excited about.

Q5: Who do you see killing it in your area and beyond? Give them a shout-out!

A5: I would love to give a shout out to the rest of the Veridian artists, especially Madhatter and DRIZZ. I would also like to give a shout out to Headphone Activist who has become a close friend and is absolutely killing it right now. Also, my long-time friend Perry Wayne out of Dallas has also been on a serious come-up as well.
