🗨 Q1: Can you tell us about the creative process behind Digital Decadence?
CRUSVDER: “I had started this track over a year ago, and the focal point at that time was the riser and the vocal chops into the drop. I remember posting a snippet of the track on an Instagram story and having a couple of people excited about it. I also played the clip out once at a Penn State House Party. Then the project kind of stalled for me because I wasn’t happy with the drop. After having a conversation with Hysteric about my 2024 showcase and how he liked the track and wanted to sign it on Cell Block, I took some time to revisit it. I completely wiped the drop I had and started with some new bass sounds. I drew from more of my recent music inspirations, like Beastboi and MOB.”

🗨 Q2: Were there any specific themes or genres that influenced your music?
CRUSVDER: I took a lot of inspiration from Barely Alive’s 80s styled intros. I am a big fan of his music and that 80s synthwave sound reminds me a lot of when I was a kid listening to my mom playing her 80s pop tracks on her IPod Home system. The drop took big inspiration from Beastboi, using that 1-2-3 cadence and lots of glitchy fx and lazers.

🗨 Q3: Were there any challenges you faced while producing DD?
CRUSVDER: Coming back to finish the song almost a year later after I had pretty much given up on completing it was difficult. It is much easier to finish a track that you’ve been working on recently. For me, a good chunk of time is spent deciphering the work I’ve already done to understand what exactly I was doing and how to incorporate it with the new ideas.
🗨 Q4: Did you experiment with any new techniques or instruments for this project?
CRUSVDER: When producing this track, I used a lot of a VST called Zenology for the intro synths and bass. It is a pretty niche preset machine synth based on the old Roland synthesizers. I usually only use the synth for hip-hop production, but I found many of the 80s-sounding synths and figured they would work perfectly for this track.
🗨 Q5: Were there any particular themes you wanted to explore for this single?
CRUSVDER: This riser into drop of this track resembles building up to glory or triumph, and then being taken away back into disarray and decadence. I think this was the main theme I wanted to portray in this track, and thus the track named Digital Decadence.
🗨 Q6: Are there any tracks that helped inspire you?
CRUSVDER: Beastboi – Crossfold was one of my favorite tracks of 2022, and I think was a lot of the inspiration for this track.
🗨 Q7: What role did mood and musical atmosphere play in DD?
CRUSVDER: I like to use atmosphere in my music to represent my image when I can, but I don’t let it stand in the way of making a good track. Some of my releases like Reinforcements or Nocturnal, have that ‘Medieval’ or ‘Battle’ imagery, but others like Digital Decadence don’t. My number one goal in music is to make tunes that I think bang.
🗨 Q8: How do you think this song fits into your overall musical journey and evolution as an artist?
CRUSVDER: This is the second song I released that I think fits with what I want my sound to be (the first being About That Time). My other releases just fit within the classic definition of “Riddim” or “Tearout”, but I feel like the sound I want doesn’t quite fit in either of these categories. This is a release I will be proud to share with others and describes exactly who I am as an artist.
🗨 Q9: Lastly, what’s next for you after this release? Are there any future projects or endeavors on the near horizon?
CRUSVDER: Lately I’ve been busy trying to finish songs and work on new collabs. I hope to drop a dubpack, release a couple of collabs with some homies, and keep working to improve my craft. I also will continue to work towards more and bigger DJ gigs.

Let’s chat with Tyler Anderson, the artist who created the cover art for not only CRUSVDER’s Digital Decadence – the owner of Volton Cicada Productions, and co-owner of Cell Block Collective.
🗨 Voltron mentions: For the past few Cell Block releases I’ve been pushing to step my design and render game up. I feel this cover is a culmination of all the hard work I’ve been putting into learning and experimenting with taking my software further.
The title and sound of the track immediately gave me thoughts of floating in space or underwater in a digital/futuristic realm. I sculpted and crafted the character and scene to create a surreal, dream-like atmosphere. I built it with elements of biotechnology, alien structures, and a Zero-G setting; bringing it all together – I created a hair sim to allow the character to stand out.
I feel like I don’t often get to talk about my process or ideas, so I thank you for giving me a quick space to do so. I hope all of you enjoy looking at it as much as I do making it!
