Kakarott presents his different take on the track “Semi-Charmed Life” by Third Eye Blind instantly and effectively.
[Texas-based] As 2024 comes to a close, and some artists are prepping for their final releases of the year, or maybe are just riding out the holiday season in peace, rising star Kakarott has decided to not take that path, and rather instead give us insane dubstep bangers that remind me of the prime time that dubstep sounded best.
Scrolling through his discography, it was hard to decide which tune to choose a write-up on. While in my search, the answer put itself right in front of me. I just so happened to notice he made a flip of an absolute classic, and the future was set in stone, this would be the track we would cover.
The drums and synths introduce a familiar pattern as the acapella brings itself in. The intro is all good vibes, destined to keep the crowd moving whether it’s at a dubstep show or even a wedding. Once the build kicks in, you can tell something is about to go down, and so you are forced to brace yourself as the filtered kicks take you to your next destination.
When the drop smashes in, you are blessed with sustain basses that remind me of the early 2010s, these aren’t your generic ‘riddim bro’ sustains, but instead, sustains layered with harmonic value and energy, with the underlying basses creating an even more energetic feel to keep the flow fast pace.
My favorite part however is when he experiments with a machine-gun-styled bass pattern in the later half of the drop, which adds a nice layer of devastation which is my personal favorite.
The second drop keeps the energy high and switches up some of the patterns to not keep from getting repetitive.
Towards the end, it transitions into a nice outro that slowly fades in volume but also brings back the iconic ‘Doo Do Do‘ we all know and love, bringing this entire track full circle.
Kakarott made a beautiful flip of a track we all have heard and know and love, but he also went the extra mile to bring us a quality variation. It’s hard to accomplish that when it’s not a remix directly related to the artist, and that’s why this one stands out even more because you would believe 100% this was an official remix.
From the unique sound design to the nostalgic soundscapes, this flip of “Semi-Charmed Life” is not one to be missed!
