How did this track come to fruition?
“Initially the track started as a plate and wasn’t going to be released, but as a signed artist with Cell Block, I felt this track and its ideas would be a good fit for the label. The drop I had was combining my inspiration from old-school dubstep and riddim. When I wrote the intro I wanted to give it that videogame bleep-bloop 8-bit style.”
“This will definitely be a sound you hear me using a lot in my work. There was some experimentation done to have the low end have its own flow apart from the main bass.”
REGEN shares his creative process behind Midnight Munchies
“Every good track needs a banger second drop and I didn’t stray away from that sentiment. I kept it unique and even threw in a little switch-up for y’all. I always want to keep the second drop different but still consistent. That’s still something I’m grinding out in my production process. I want all tracks of mine to have great progression.”
How did you maintain the unique thematics of Midnight Munchies while keeping bass at the center of focus?
“The hunt for 4/20 related samples landed me on a bit from “Half Baked“ and it just worked perfectly. Sampling clips from movies and any funny audio I can find is something I love incorporating.
This one was a lot of fun and I had a lot of laughs making it. I hope everyone else enjoys it and has a laugh or two to go with it.”
