💬 Let’s Chat
w/ BØRIS
Q1: What inspired you to create the track BLOOD
BØRIS: I’ve been really inspired by that OG square-4 riddim sound recently and I wanted to make something that sounded similar to some of those older songs with a little bit of a modern twist.
Q2: Can you tell us about the creative process behind the track?
BØRIS: This was one of this first track I made trying to learn how to use maelstrom in reason. The sound I made sounded very dark and scary and I found this vocal sample from an old movie and it really tied it together.
Q3: How did you decide the concept for the track?
BØRIS: The vocal sample I found had this really spooky vibe to it and it made me want to make this very dark scary sounding song.
Q4: Were there any specific themes or genres that influenced your music?
BØRIS: I was defiently influenced by artists like MARAUDA and Svdden Death making this song but I also wanted to include some elements from artists like Subfiltronik and Phex.
Q5: What emotions or atmosphere were you aiming to create with this track?
BØRIS: I was aiming to make something very scary but with a lot of energy and a big sound.
Q6: How did you approach incorporating elements of darkness and horror into your music?
BØRIS: I tried to build a really spooky ambience that felt like a level in a horror game. I added some very dark sounds with a lot of reverb to make it sound creepy.
Q7: Were there any challenges you faced while producing this track?
BØRIS: I actually didn’t have a lot of trouble making this song. This was the first song I made after getting over a long period of writers block and everything was just flowing and everything came together really well.
Q8: Did you experiment with any new techniques or instruments for this project?
BØRIS: The second drop of this song was my first attempt at slower, mid tempo tearout. I’ve never made anything like that before and I thought it came out really good and it fit with the rest of the song.
Q9: What do you hope listeners will take away from your music?
BØRIS: I hope they just enjoy my song. That all I can ever ask for and I’m super thankful to have people listening to my music at all.
Q10: Can you discuss the significance of the track and artwork?
BØRIS: I had this track finished for a while and I really wanted a proper release for it. The artwork that was made by voltroncicada was just perfect and it really fit the theme of the song.
Q11: Were there any particular themes you wanted to explore for the track?
BØRIS: I really wanted to do the vocal sample justice. It was just so creepy and I wanted to build this scary world around it.
Q12: How do you think your personal experiences influenced the creative process of your music?
BØRIS: Before I started making this song I was listening to a lot of square 4 riddim and tearout and I wanted to make a blend of the genres.
Q13: Are there any tracks that help inspire you?
BØRIS: Defiently some tracks along the lines of BLOCKZ by Subfiltronik inspired this song. Songs like peanut butter by MARAUDA and Svdden Death definitely helped to inspire me as well.
Q14: How important is storytelling in your music, particularly in a horror context?
BØRIS: Generally I don’t do a ton of storytelling in my songs but the vocal sample in this song really brought this scary theme that I wanted to show off and make a scary story to tell.
Q15: What role does mood and atmosphere play in your compositions?
BØRIS: Atmosphere is very important to my music. I could make a good song but if it doesn’t sound like it’s one concise idea I can’t release it. Everything has to sound tied together and consistent.
Q16: Were there any specific challenges in translating themes into the musc.
BØRIS: I had trouble getting the right amount of scary in my song if that makes sense. I wanted it to be creepy but not horrifying. I wanted it to make it feel like someone was following you and that sense of fear you feel.
