Vernon Vodenik, who simply slays it under the effervescent alias, Vodenik. This future-bass infused aficionado, drives the melodic movement under immovable measures. His fervent, wholesome, and heartfelt tracks can be heard a mile away, if you listen closely. Allow this producer to serenade you with his moving tracks, and uplifting repertoire of music.
Please welcome Vodenik to the storm!
Q1: Welcome! Where did the Vodenik project come from? Take us back to the beginning in regards to your decision to make music under this alias.
A1: The Vodenik project started right after I got out of the military. While I was in the Navy at the time, I bought a MacBook Pro and downloaded FL Studio. After I got out of the Navy, that’s when I really went full on and dove right into production and really finding myself as a music producer. I pretty much taught myself everything I know just from failing over and over again. Vodenik is also my last name. I’m the only Vernon Vodenik in the world. So I wanted nothing more than to include my last name and make it official. I’ve been producing for roughly for 2 years.
Q2: Who has been the biggest inspiration and or role model in your journey thus far? Inside and outside the worlds of music, of course.
A2: My biggest inspiration in my music production has come from Seven Lions, Illenium, and Nurko. Their sound is unmatched and unique in their own ways. My instructors in Defyre Society are always pushing me to be a better version of myself. Also, the friends I’ve made in the music industry always inspire me to keep pushing myself harder and harder everyday.
Q3: What has been your favorite track to make so far in your career? Why this track?
A3: My favorite track would definitely have to be my unreleased song with my good friend, Kelsey Ray. It’s called “Bad Dream”, which is unreleased as of right now. It’s my favorite because I was once at a very low point in my life and this song pretty much brought me out of it. I laid out all of my emotions into this track. And when Kelsey and I got together in the studio and I heard the final vocals, I was speechless. It’s a very emotional track if you were to really listen to the pain in Kelsey‘s voice and the lyrics. I can’t wait for this song to be released.
Q4: What do you have in store for the rest of 2020 and or into 2021? Let your fans know what is next in the realm of Vodenik!
A4: I have a couple of new songs coming out in 2020/2021. One of those songs being Bad Dream with Kelsey Ray. I also just got news a couple days ago that one of my favorite labels is going to be signing Bad Dream. We will keep this a secret until time to release with them! This would also be my first ever label release. I also have a song with the wonderful Dani King called, Hold Me Back. It’s very close to being finalized. I will also be dropping a live-stream with drone footage right by the Cincinnati skyline. That should be released in the next week or 2 from now. I have a couple unfinished collaborations and originals that I’m working on as well.
Q5: Your musical arsenal is definitely thick and packs some heat. Although, out of curiosity, who are you trying to collaborate with here in the near future?
A5: That’s a great question. Some of the people I would love to collab with would be Stryer, FelMax, Heaven Fell, Specter, Dylan Matthew, Haliene, and Runn. Those are just a few out of the top of my head.
Q6: Walk us through your creative process behind your Only Now remix. What went into that remix creatively from your perspective as an artist?
A6: My Seven Lions remix was my favorite remix I’ve ever made. It was also the most challenging because, Seven Lions is a legend. I look up to him a lot. So I really wanted this remix to be perfect and really have that “wow” factor. I originally just started with piano. But, I had a great idea and I hit my friend up that plays guitar to see if he wanted to drop some melodies and riffs for me. After the guitar was laid down that’s when I had a better understanding of where the track was going to go. I asked him to do a guitar solo for 2nd and 3rd drop which added lots of emotion to it and gives it that “feel good” vibe. The funny thing about this was this was a remix competition and I had to send a un-mastered version because it wasn’t mastered yet. So I knew I really wasn’t going to come close at all. And after the deadline the master was done and I released it later on SoundCloud.
Q7: Who do you see killing it these days? Give them some love and a shout-out below!
A7: Oh wow, there’s a lot of people killing it right now. Kelsey Ray is absolutely crushing it right now. I can’t release any news about her yet but she has a few collaborations with really big artist and she has a song with our friend Stryer as well. Her voice is insane and unlike any voice I’ve heard. I can’t wait to see the big things coming for her. My good friend Awon deserves a shout-out as well. We just released our collab with Kelsey Ray called, “Be This Hard”. We just surpassed 2,000 streams on Spotify. He just had a baby and it still producing and never taking breaks. He has an unreleased song with Dani King. And many other huge unreleased tunes. One of my good friends, Kyle Proffitt just got accepted into Icon Collective. He’s an up and comer in the scene and I can’t wait to see the big things he does in the future. He has some unreleased tunes coming out that are fire! Definitely have to shout-out the homies Muus and Chase West. They are killing it right now with support from Dr. Fresch. A lot of their tunes are getting a lot of attention from bigger artist which is awesome to see. There’s still many people that are crushing it right now. The Cincinnati scene is definitely underrated big time. There’s a lot of great musicians in this beautiful city.
