Primal’s debut EP ‘First Edition’ hits our platfrom, bursting w/ 140-style basslines [EP Write-Up]

KY’s rising bass music act Primal releases his debut EP ‘First Edition‘ here on our record label, Monsoon Season!

Zack Statom, or being best known as Primal has unleashed his fresh and textured 140-style deep dubstep EP titled First Edition, showcasing the producer’s mastery of low-end frequencies and shaky basslines.

The three-track collection – Douma, NYCD (ft. Kenlie), and True Story dives deep into the roots of dubstep with minimalistic yet captivating arrangements. Each song exudes atmospheric tension like the tune True Story does, layered with rumbling sub-basslines and hypnotic rhythms.

NYCD adds a vehement twist with Kenlie‘s captivating vocal melodies, while Douma closes the EP with eerie soundscapes, entrancing vocal bits, and precision-crafted drops.

PRIMAL tells us this about Douma:

“One of my favorite anime shows of all time is Demon Slayer. Inspired by some of the samplings of Douma himself, this 140-style track took shape when I started laying down the piano around the guitar. I wanted it to be massive, but at the same time have subtle peace throughout as the relationship between good and evil has peaceful moments sometimes. Special thanks to my beautiful wife Meghan, because through every battle in my life, she has been right there with me. I couldn’t do this without you babe!”

PRIMAL tells us this about NYCD (ft. Kenlie):

“So this track was produced after I found out the wife of a lovely couple in my friend group was a hell of a vocalist. Her husband Matt had mentioned that she was really interested in getting her feet wet and putting some vocals down. When I started the workflow on this track, the words “Nothing you can do will make me wait” kept rolling through my head. So I shot her a message and asked her for a vocal file, and this is what we created! Definitely a highlight track for me with this EP. Kenlie if you see this, thank you!

PRIMAL tells us this about True Story:

“This track is super special for me as it represents the newest and best part of my life unfolding in front of me as we speak, every day right now. The vocals were done by myself. It was a catchy vocal, but the key vocal in this track speaks to me greatly. “Never been about the glory, that’s a fucking true story”.

Because to me, this music is about making people dance, and has never been about “getting big” or “clout”. This is about the story I want to tell through the art I’m making.
