Electronic bass music artist and record label co-owner of Holy Trap & Festival Trap, Darian Scott is GO HARD.

Let’s chat with:

Q1. Welcome to our torrential downpour, GO HARD. Can you tell us about your background in dance music, and how you became a music producer, and record label owner?

GO HARD: I first became inspired to produce dubstep/EDM when I heard Skrillex’s Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites in 2010. Some of my early influences were Noisia, NERO, Skrillex, deadmau5, and Knife Party.

When I saw Skrillex in Toronto on the Mothership Tour in May 2014, I was instantly addicted and attracted to the way he went from drop to drop and kept such a high energy in his sets. After attending Life in Color Miami with my brother in December 2014 and seeing Slander, Bro Safari, Borgore, Carnage, and Snails perform, it ignited a fire inside me to want to create music like them and become a dubstep DJ/Producer.

When I was offered the chance to buy FESTIVAL TRAP and Holy Trap, I saw this as the perfect opportunity to help push my music, along with the music of smaller artists to a larger audience.

Q2. Where does the GO HARD moniker come from? Tell us about that decision!

GO HARD: I went to see Skrillex and Diplo together as Jack Ü on the Full Flex Express tour in Toronto in July 2015 and the show was filled with such high energy that I felt like their music was meant to “jack you up.”

Wanting to make people GO HARD at my shows and get them headbanging to the heavy dubstep and hard trap music that I produce, I decided to use the GO HARD moniker.

Q3. Your most recent song BALLIN is a knockout tune! Can you give us a glimpse into the creative process behind that production? 

GO HARD: I’ve been getting inspired by the heavy tearout dubstep that has been taking over the scene and I wanted to put my spin on that subgenre.

I combined some thick basses with higher frequency wubs, then layered some of my favorite sustains over the bass to create the main theme of the track.

I alternated between a few different patterns within the drops to make them unique.

Q4. What we the motivations and/or inspirations for your last song DEATH? That song sure sent shivers down our spine! 

GO HARD: I was inspired to make a hybrid trap song using a guttural growl along with the deep wub bass that I created for the song. I began with a haunting intro for the song using creepy, dissonant strings to send those shivers down your spine. After discovering a screaming vocal sample saying “death”, I knew it suited the song perfectly.

Q5. Talk to us about your labels FESTIVAL TRAP and Holy Trap! What differentiates the two?

GO HARD: I acquired FESTIVAL TRAP in January 2021 with the hopes of taking it in a new direction with a new artist roster.

On FESTIVAL TRAP we release hard trap, festival trap, dubstep, tearout, and hard dance. I was offered to start running Holy Trap in October 2021 with my friend KOMPLVINT and we re-introduced the label with our Unholy Confessions compilation album.

On Holy Trap we focus on releasing hybrid trap specifically. I’m passionate about helping smaller artists reach a larger audience through my labels.

Q6. Owning two labels, producing music, and managing it all in a balanced fashion isn’t easy. What sort of disciples and routines or regimens are required to implement that skill set?

GO HARD: I stay consistent by putting aside as many days as I can to focus on GO HARD music production. Both of my labels release new music on Fridays. I always set aside that whole day to focus on promoting the new releases, having artwork made up, checking out new demos, and communicating with the artists.

Q7. What sort of advice can you give fellow producers to make music like you – GO HARD?

GO HARD: My advice to fellow producers is to find the style of music that you like to produce the most and dive into it with everything you’ve got. The more that you’re into the music that you’re making the more it will show in the final product. Develop your own personal taste and have fun doing it!

Q8. What’s next for GO HARD? New music, next event, or anything else up your sleeve we can look forward to?

GO HARD: I have a new tearout dubstep track “SWAMP STOMP” with KOMPLVINT dropping on July 19th.

Coming up after that, I have a new psytrance/deep dubstep EP titled “BLADE” with SHAD3Z and featuring vocals from Talise Harris dropping on August 9th. The EP features two psytrance tracks “DEATH SPELL” and “LICK IT” and one deep dubstep track “BLADE”.

I’m also working on finishing up two new tearout dubstep tracks that will showcase a new sound from GO HARD!
