Rising heavy bass music producer SVNXX (pronounced seven twenty), located in the southern regions of Texas, strikes again with their most recent release titled “Criminal”.

Criminal is SVNXX’s first release of 2024. After a much-needed hiatus, “Criminal” is the result of SVNXX finding his belonging and inspiration that was once thought to be lost.

The track starts with an almost sinister synth-lead that is also used as a suspense-filled build-up. The intro to this track is quite simple, which works to its benefit to quickly establish the vibe of what’s about to come next.

Quickly, we are sent into a nostalgia-filled drop that instantly sends you back to the 2010 era of dubstep.

SVNXX shares with us:

“This is my first release going into 2024, ever since I took a long and much-needed break away from social media and music due to my loss of motivation and my self-esteem back in December of 2023. But, luckily a couple of weeks ago, I suddenly felt the passion again to work on dubstep music”

The main bass of this drop sounds just like an old-school excision sound, which is always a great throwback to encounter, especially for those who found dubstep around this time period. The drop experiments with different variations of patterns that are blended seamlessly by a repeating break every few bars, allowing for air and tension to build before it smashes into its next section.

The mixdown on this track is very much reminiscent of the mixdowns you would find around the 2010-2015 era, and I love that because over time, we all know that focuses have changed and now everyone believes every mix and master must be 100% clean and pristine, where I disagree and often find enjoyment in the raw sounds and emotions one can simply create just through sound design.

SVNXX also mentions:

The second drop continues this trend of old-school , nostalgia-filled bass that brings different patterns again, but this go around has a whole different feel for some reason. I’m not exactly sure what was pulled off here to accomplish that, but I’m all for it.

The patterns build in intensity and pace as we are brought to an abrupt end, leaving you wanting to instantly hit repeat on the track.
