CYKX: Interview
Q1: Welcome to our storm! For our readers and newly gained soon-to-be fans, who is CYKX? Briefly walk us through your origin story and decision to choose your name!
A1: I attended my first rave in 2018 and I knew this was my path in life – in the sea of people under the flashing lights I found myself and met god. I immediately began pursuing a career in the industry as a promoter but I still wasn’t satisfied. I wanted to be up there, on stage, providing the same means of transformation and healing through art that I had experienced.
CYKX was a username I created for this website called GaiaOnline when I was around 10 years old, with the thought process of “What is the shortest word I can make without any vowels?” I’ve used it ever since.
Q2: Being a Texas resident must have bigger benefits in regard to music. What has been most constructive to you in The Lone Star State?
A2: I am grateful beyond words for the incredible foundation I have here. It took a lot of time and trials to surround myself with the quality people I have in my life now. The network I have built here has been instrumental in my growth. I have an incredible support system through my friends, fans, and peers that constantly provide me value. I am truly blessed for the and opportunities I have been given here and I will not let it go to waste.
Q3: Walk us through the track ‘Transcend’. Being your utmost recent release it will be most fresh on the mind and off the press. What can you recollect as a starting point in comparison to what the end product came to be?
A3: I really love to create euphoric, atmospheric art with the intention of inspiring and provoking healing – whether that be release through movement, emotion, or contemplation. I wanted to create a powerful, melodic, neo-cyber track.
Q4: What can your fans expect for the rest of 2020? What do you anticipate for 2021?
A4: Expect more and more and more music as I continue to evolve.
Q5: Who do you see killing it in your area and beyond? Give them a shout-out!
A5: Huge shout-out to BRVMES and SHSTR who are HUGE inspirations to me, some of my all time favorite artists, and both great individuals. Also to GHOST DATA, who is by far my favorite local DJ. So much potential in these 3 that deserve main-stage.
