Kerys Takes Us To A New Depth With Her New Bass Release ‘Six Leagues Under’
Written by: Brandon Missig
Kerys, an impressive up & comer in the bass music scene, follows up her blistering release “Terror Of The Depths” off Nova Lotus with an even more aggressive self-released track, “Six Leagues Under.” This is Kerys’ third release of the year and serves to further develop her vision of a dark yet vibrant aquatic world. This is her first delve into a strictly dubstep arrangement and it is an absolute face-melter.
The song opens with an almost classical synth-wave inspired melody. The lead here gives a very retro vibe, but the layers of texture and ambiance create a very fresh and modern atmosphere. The pay-off is huge, the bassline is literally dripping with Kerys’ style. It’s very wet and stompy, it feels very much inspired by pressure changes that occur at the bottom of the ocean. The lumbering weight of the bass gives way to another melodic section with lots of classic 80s sound design choices including big snares with gated reverbs. These old-school-meets-new-school sound design choices create a really captivating dynamic between the impactful science fiction type sounds on the basslines and the synth-wave inspired melodies.
Overall, this is another great release by Kerys. It’s full of unique elements and continues elaborating on this underwater world she is building. You should absolutely expect Kerys to continue to get support from major artists with this release.
Crates I’m putting this into: Deep Dark, Chops, Invasion Bass
