[Interview: Shinjidubz]

Q1: Get stoked to get soaked, Shinjidubz! Where does your story all begin? Tell us about your start in music!
A1: It took me a while to start making music, actually. I’ve only been really taking it seriously for the last two years, I think. My first introduction to dubstep was back in 2010 when my dad of all people showed me this really bad remix of the Imperial March theme from Star Wars. It was really stupid, but I was hooked in an instant. From there I started listening to a lot of dubstep mixes on YouTube and I would also look up remixes for old video game soundtracks, like Sonic or Mario. It wasn’t until around 2016 when I started producing, though. I got FL Studio 12 and Serum and went on a preset spree. My old music was terrible to say the least, mixdown and everything. It took me a while to improve and get to where I am now which was like two years ago. I started off making a lot of Brostep so last year was when I made the switch to Riddim. That’s pretty much how it all began.
Q2: In what ways are you prepping and preparing for this live stream?
A2: For starters, I made sure I scheduled work off this Saturday for the event. Other than that, I’ve just been sitting back and waiting for it to roll around. I’m super excited as this is my first URL fest, so I’m a little nervous about what the reception on my mix is going to be like.
Q3: Breakdown the creative process for Ring Ring for us. How did that come to be?
A3: I forgot when I started the project, but I initially made a basic patch in serum, which is honestly rare for me to use these days as I’ve been using Reason Rack and Fruity Gran a lot more. I bounced the patch to audio and then started playing around with it in post processing and stuff like that. There’s also Five Nights at Freddy’s samples in the song, which anyone should be able to notice. I just really like those games and especially the sound effects and voice lines from them. The telephone from the first one fit really well in the intro. Everything else regarding the song was just a lot of experimentation until I made something I liked.
Q4: What can we expect next on the radar of Shinjidubz? Give us some details or clues!
A4: I have a lot of new tunes in the works right now, so expect another showcase in the Summer. Other than that, I’m working on a brand-new project completely different from Riddim. Keep an eye out for it.
Q5: Who do you see killing it lately?
A5: Give them a shout-out! Definitely my buddy Squirt. He’s super talented! We’ve known each other for about two years now and I’ve loved every second of it. His ability to make multiple diverse genres and sounds is one of his biggest strengths. We’ve also been working on some new stuff together that’s coming soon. Look out for that as well.
