Dub Vader: HEAVY SETS ONLY

Jarren Purser, or more auditorily known as Dub Vader, is slicing and dicing his way to the top of the bass music pyramid in Salt Lake City, Utah and has no intention of slowing down. Consistently dropping bangers, this titan can leave you shaken after one of his heavy dubstep sets. 
We are stoked to introduce Dub Vader to you. Hold tight, it’s going to be a wobbly ride. 

Question 1: For the unknowing reader and soon to be fans, where did the name Dub Vader originate from?

Answer 1: The alias and name Dub Vader originally started out as ‘Dvb Vater” because I love dubstep and I’m part “German” so “Vater” means father in German.  But I quickly changed the spelling to Dub Vader because people were constantly spelling my name and alias wrong. So my name technically means “DUB FATHER” which is also a name I hope to live up to someday. I want to be known as one of the many Dub Fathers that brought Dubstep and this genre forward and helped it grow. I would love to be remembered as someone like an Excision which is whom I consider the ultimate Dub Father of bass music. 

Question 2: Fresh off your “Kill It” tour stops beginning in Salt Lake City for two stops and for the time being stopping in Denver, Colorado at Your Moms House for Recovery Mondays. What has been your utmost highlighted and favorite moments thus far?

Answer 2: Yes, my 2 stops in Salt Lake City were such a good time, the first event was Headbangers Ball at Bottoms Up formerly known as “In The Venue”  which I went b2b with Unknowing at. We had an awesome crowd come out that night plus this was my first show at Bottoms Up since they took over the club. Then I played the Jaguar Occult Silent Disco which was insane because it was my first time ever playing a silent disco but also was fun because this was my first time playing for the Occult. No Dj Or Producer understands how hard a Silent Disco actually is you have to use 2 pairs of headphones and constantly be taking off one pair to make sure what your mixing and having the crowd hear isn’t awful and is on beat/in key with whatever track you’re bringing in next. Jaguar Occult has a badass production & visual mapping setup at their warehouse venue. Then I traveled to Denver and got to play at an iconic and independently ran/owned venue in Denver called Your Mom’s House which was an incredible experience, to say the least. I got to meet some amazing people and supporters out there, I would have to say this Denver performance has been the highlight of the tour because the production was just amazing out there and the crowd for a Monday show was ridiculous. I couldn’t be more grateful to have been apart of the Q-Vents LLC & Konscious Movement one year anniversary celebration of Recovery Mondays. This tour stop was also probably my highlight because my next 3 tour shows got postponed or canceled due to this COVID-19 stuff going on in the world. So this was my last good memory and on top of it was cool to have my Bass Capital debut be out in Colorado during my 27th birthday as well.

Question 3: With another tour stop ahead of you, coming back home to Utah for Everlasting at The Loading Dock on 4/18, what can we expect from you?

Answer 3: Well now that I’m back home and my tour date for Portland, Oregon is currently postponed due to COVID-19 until further notice. I will keep everyone updated on a rescheduled date for that show. But what you can expect in the meantime is me either dropping my Dub Vader x Sky Child x Raidn Ft Rico Act “Underground” track or drop Raidn x Dub Vader Ft: Atarii “Tyrant” Unreleased ID. Stay tuned for more new music, rescheduled show announcements, and an announcement for Electric Pow Wow coming real soon as well.

Question 4: Who has been your biggest inspiration, musically and outside of music?

Answer 4: My biggest inspirations are Excision, Space Laces, Trampa, Megalodon, and Spag Heddy. They all have such a distinct sound and quality of there music that I love so much and admire. I really would love to have my own distinct sound like them someday that will be noticeable worldwide. This is only accomplished with thousands of hours of practice, perfecting your sound, and craft. Outside of music, I would say my biggest inspirations would be my good friends Ryan Snoddy & Jake Sandstrom. These are 2 of my very dear friends that have passed away over the last 5 years, unfortunately. I was in a really bad place in my life after losing 2 best friends within a matter of a year apart 2015 and 2016 were tough years for me emotionally, spiritually, and physically among other things. I was in the depths of addiction, I tried forgetting these losses with substances, no matter how hard I tried to mask my emotion it only made things worse over time. After finally going to rehab in 2017 I had a revelation while in treatment bettering myself, I said to myself instead of letting these losses continue to be a reason for me to use and hurt myself. I’m going to use the loss of my best friends and choose to live “vicariously” through them by following my dreams and doing what I love while I’m still on this earth and have the chance to because that’s exactly what my friends would want for me. These 2 are my biggest inspirations and another reason I will stop at nothing until I’ve reached my dream and made my friends proud. 

Question 5: Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Breakdown the utopian setting that we are envisioning in 2025?

Answer 5: In 5 years? I truly see myself on some of the biggest stages across the world, It will be no easy task but it’s one that I’m not giving up on. I believe music is the one universal thing that connects us all, and I hope and pray that someday I can impact many people’s lives with my story and my music. I see myself running a record label that is already in the works and will be debuted sometime later this year. In 5 years I will have one of the most known underground bass music labels in the world, I will have released music on Never Say Die Black Label, Disciple Round Table, Uplink Audio, Buygore, and many others. I will have worked and collaborated with some of the biggest names in dubstep. I will have played Lost Lands Music Festival, Bass Canyon, among many others.

Question 6: Aside from blaring huge tunes for your fans, what else do you do in your free time?

Answer 6: In my free time I like to go to the gym, be with my friends or family, boating, wakeboarding, playing frisbee golf, making music, camping, going to festivals or music events in general, ATVing, shooting guns, and plenty of other things. I do love being outdoors though especially during summertime, that’s the time to be outside and enjoying the warm weather and sun. I look forward to this summer and playing some amazing events. 

Question 7: What artists are in your scope as far as collaborations go?

Answer 7: In my scope for collabs currently I’m working on Raidn x Dub Vader Ft Atarii “Tyrant” Unreleased ID, also have a collab with Bvss Tactic that’s coming out this year, Dub Vader x Sky Child x Raidn Ft Rico Act “Underground” is basically finished, Also working on a track with young 16-year-old music prodigy “HWYL” this is going to be either a deep dub tune or a filthy trap banger, also looking to work with some other artists like DEM BOIZ, Bxnes, Mr.Wildfire, Cacophonic, and for my biggest collab it’s my ultimate goal to get a tune going with Trentcast who’s a heavy underground hitter on the come up. 

Question 8: You have seen the insides and outs of venues, as an artist and as a fan. What do you feel is the best part of being a binary attendee and addition to the show?

Answer 8: I feel like the best thing is just being able to see how everything comes together from the production, to the artists, to the dancers, to the security and venue. It’s just amazing being able to experience it from every angle and also be able to meet some of my biggest inspirations and people I look up to in music. I would say that’s also the other amazing thing is being able to show your close friends an amazing experience and also help them meet people that are their idols and people they look up to. 

Question 9: Who is your area can you give the most thanks to for assisting and helping you get to where you are today?

Answer 9: My biggest thanks have to go to Jake Combe aka “Prophet” who is an amazing music producer and DJ. He taught me everything he knows and more and I couldn’t be more grateful that he is who I’ve learned music production and djing from. I need to give a huge shout out to my school Salt Lake DJ & Production. I wouldn’t be where I’m at today without them all as well. Big ups to Tyson Christman aka Sky Child for all the amazing knowledge he gave me over the last 2 years. I have to show love to Dope Soul Entertainment, without them I wouldn’t be where I’m at as well. They have believed in me for a long time and have constantly put me on and shown me love. I”m forever grateful for Tra Wilding & Daniel Johnson the owners of Dope Soul Entertainment. Also grateful to each and every person that supports my brand and shows me love, I do this all for you guys.

Question 10: With your exciting and bass-driven tour in full effect, what other shows, songs and or a mix of the two can we anticipate?

Answer 10: Shows you can anticipate are me playing in Seattle soon for Drippy & Crowell‘s Frooty Loops Tour I play direct support for them, Then I’m headlining Paradigm Festival down in Egnar, Colorado the first week of June, then the following week after that I’m playing main stage direct support for some badass headliners at Electric Pow Wow, then catch me in July playing another amazing festival which is not announced yet, then catch me playing in Portland, Oregon for my rescheduled date of Dub Vader “The Kill It” tour. Then you can catch me playing many other out of state shows and festivals throughout the year, I will keep you all updated. Also, I already dropped a remix album to my original track “Kill It” that was signed to Envisional Sounds you can check that all out on my SoundCloud page. Expect a new mix within the next month as well. I can’t wait to tell you the name of that mix series coming really soon.

Question 11: What has been your favorite show thus far in your career and why?

Answer 11: My favorite show in my career so far definitely has to be The Big Bang which was last year on News Year Eve. Megalodon and Whales brought out “The Hunt” tour to Salt Lake City, I played direct support for them and also got the opportunity to go b2b with both of them for 20 minutes which was the highlight of my year. It was amazing and a very motivating way to start 2020 as well, it helped me with a big boost of confidence and momentum to start the year. Getting the chance to play with your idols is something I will never forget and will cherish for many years to come. Megalodon was so humble and down to earth, he even signed my Dub Vader shirt and messaged me online a couple days after the event and told me to keep killing it and he was looking forward to coming back out here soon. I can’t wait to play music and support many more of my idols over the years to come. Make sure to continue following my journey for more updates, I hope to see you all very soon.
